Thing #23

I found the blog site http://23thingsonastick.blogspot.com/

Knowing about the creative commons licensing I now look to see if I can copy and paste a picture into my Power Point projects. I think twice before taking a picture off of a friends facebook profile. As teachers we have to ensure that we are being an example to the students that we teach. If we are not teaching our students how to cite where they are getting their information from or doing it ourselves how can we expect them to.

If I only completed this thing before my INTASC folder was due for 3070, it would have helped tremendously. LiveBinder provides people to keep up with bookmarked web pages in a central location over a central topic, it is a brilliant idea. I created a Lesson Plan Idea, Bag of Tricks, and Teaching Strategies binders. I think it would be hard to have my younger students understand how to use LiveBinders but if I get a 5th or 6th grade classroom I could use the binder for a science or social studies activity.

Animoto just made my morning! I love taking pictures of myself, friends, family, and cheerleaders. I always want to create a slideshow at the end of the season for my kids for all the pictures I have taken but hate using powepoint to do it. Animoto is so much simpler, I am definietly thinking about buying a membership, I have even downloaded it my iPhone.

Make your own photo slideshow at Animoto.

The  video I chose to embed was a video I found on youtube called Teaching for the Future. The movie explains how the government place standards and curriculm at high standard to ensure that students are learning to make the future students better adults. Then shows different movie clips with teachers in them motivating students to be better students and encourgaing them to learn. Youtube provides teachers with motivatinal and instructional videos for them to use.

I am currently a member of facebook, twitter (the ones I use the most), youtube, myspace, and now TeacherPop. TeacherPop and Yelp was very appealing to me. Firstly, TeacherPop is for teachers and inspiring teachers, allowing us to create our own social networking community. I also like that there is someone that is approving who can and can not join the website. I also like Yelp, Yelp allows you to find new things to do and places to eat in the city and cities that I might take a vacation at.

Thing #18

Social Networking comes with great qualities along with the bad qualities. I remember being in high school and could not wait to walk across the stage and my teachers accept my friend request to  be their friend. Being friends with my high school teachers allowed me to keep connected with them throughout college to be the help line I needed when I needed someone to proofread a paper or help write a lesson plan. This is the same way it could be used in the classroom today. Teachers could create a classroom facebook page to connect with parents, especially those parents that could be overseas since we live in a military community.

With every good there comes the bad. Social Networking allowed bullys to find another way of picking on their peers. Cyberbullying has become the new thing to do in schools. Teachers have to know how to roam social networks sites when students complain about being picked on outside the classroom walls.

Being the google lover that I am I chose iGoogle, iGoogle allows me to see the things that I want to see, such as, the weather, movie showtimes, blog updates, and my upcoming events. iGoogle also allows me to make my background a picture of myself. ;) The calender allows me to be update when I log on to my laptop, phone, and iPhone, being a cheerleading coach, student, and athlete it keeps my head on straight. The to-do list was too much work for me I would rather use my handwritten planner to keep up with the things I need to complete. I would suggest for someone to use iGoogle it allows them to get to see information they search the web for right on there homepage. Making it effective for in the home and at school.

Thing #15

I really enjoyed exploring the different wiki websites. Wiki offers teachers to connect through the internet with students, parents, and peers through the web and allow them to share information in a very easy way. I really enjoy the sandbox wiki for the 23 things, it allows to see that we were not the only ones to stress about getting the things done and see people prior to us creativity. I started creating a wiki for my cheerleading team for the upcoming season that I coach. Once I get it completed I will place the link on here.

I am in kind of a pickle I like mind maps and flow chart. Minds maps is very simple to use and the color scheme that they choose for the website really attracts me. Flow chart on the other had uses invititations to sign up to use the program and the process of creating the map is a little difficult although the final project looks great. Another reason why I like flow chart is there is such a variety of charts you can choose from to make charts not only floor the classroom but for business needs as well.

Thing #13

I had never heard of Zoho before Thing #13, it gives everyone the oppurtunity to use a word processing program online when they do not have one avialable to them. Just as Google docs does, I think I like using Google Docs more then Zoho just because I know how to navigate around the site more. For me perosonally, I found it hard to find things on the Zoho website. I must say it is a great website for iPad users to use to work on papers instead of paying and downloading an app!

Both word processing documents would be great for students to use to work on assignments collabritively. I currently am working on a project for another class and posted the presentation on Google Docs for my groupmates to recieve it and be able to edit it. I think that is another reason why I like Google Docs so much because my contacts and groups are already in google. I think everyone should be familiar with these two websites!

Thing #12

Google! Google! iGoogle! I love Google as much as I love apple. I have used google calender, translate, and igoogle for about a year after my mom told me it would be easier way of merging all of my applications together. I have my calender aleart me when it is almost time for my classes to begin, when my hw is due, and  translate I use right now at work as we prepare for a new cheer season. The more people become informed about what google has to offer they will begin to love it as much as I do. It will allow teachers who are working on a project for work to be able to make changes to documents without being in the same place at the same time.My Calender

I knew there were a lot of blogs out there but I did not realize that there really are a bunch of blogs out there! The easiest way of finding a good blog to follow that interested me was through EduBlog it gave me a bunch of good blogs that should have interested me because of me want to be an educator. Google blog search gave me so many options about the keywords that we were instructed to look up that I felt overwhelemed looking at them. I saw many blogs that were created about Thing #11 from other 3040 students amongst other information.

I found a really cute blog through edublog that a  teacher started about the kids in her classroom. The blog is composed of picture of the kids doing projects in class, having fun on holidays, and even the children reading a book that the students wrote. I love this it brings the world in the classroom and allows the parents to know what is going on the classroom with out being there. Another way I found blogs were looking through blogs of people that followed the same blogs that I followed.

Thing #10.

Since  I have been this class I have begun reading a bunch of blogs and trying to keep up with them, because of this I love RSS and newsreaders. I do not have to go to the site everyday to keep up with the blogs all I have to do is log on to my google account and it is one stop shop for all the blogs I like to follow. If I ever start a blog for my classroom to be able to keep in touch with my students and their parents an RSS or newsreader would be very helpful for those parents who would keep up with my blog about my classroom. Using this new technology to its fullest potential and also keeping up with what other teachers are doing in their classrooms.

Thing #9

Well I thought I enjoyed thing #8 but I think Thing #9 just one my favorite thing so far. There is so much you can do with image generators to make something so simple as giving instructions fun, not just for you but for your students as well! If I had to pick my favorite image creater it would have to be the imagechef. The site offers so many different types of backgrounds to type in to that makes plan instructions fun! Any library, classroom, or even desk will come alive with this cool tool.

I loved doing this! I would rather use spell with Flickrmore than Flickr, spell with  Flickr was simpler to use then Flickr itself. I cold use spell with Flickr  in the classroom to grab students attention about different subjects. I could also use this in my personal and classroom life with my blogs to give it a little flair. Although I can not get the html to work in my blog. Since I could get my spell with Flickr to work, I choose to display my jigsaw picture.  I have no problems with displaying photos on the internet, I feel as if they are tastful and do not degrade anyone then the word should see how beautiful one is. The saying is true a single photo can speak a thousand words.

Thing #7

I am a huge fan of photography. Therefore, I love Flickr although I feel the website is very confusing and there are better imaging websites out there that is more user friendly then flickr. Once I finally figured what everything was in flickr I searched the tag abstract. The pictures I found under this tag were great and made me want to go outside and take pictures.

Here's a great picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/cubagallery/3391882610/ check it out!

Thing #6

I dedcided to explore the website DropBox. I actually first used this website last year in my Math 1410 class with Dr. Fillingim. What I really like about this website is that you can download the "dropbox" to any computer and it does not matter if it is a MAC based program or Windows, which allows it to be very convient to the users of the website. One negative thing about the website is once you start using a lot of data you then have to begin paying for the dropbox. I could see myself using this in my classroom by allowing students to work on assignments in the classroom and then stoing it in the dropbox to be able to retrieve them once they get home. I could even use it for myself to drop documents in for me to work on at home .dropbox.com

Thing #3

An education blog I could possibly use for so many things in the classroom. I could use it to reflect about the lesson plans that I used, what were good about it and worked and vice versa.  I could also make students use it to communicate with classmates and myself about homework, problems they are having, or things they are enjoying in class. I could also do the same thing to communicate with my parents.

Thing #2

When I was creating my blog I was seating in class and had to think of my usernames and blog title name on the fly. I choose JRichardson as my posting name because it is the first part of my username for my Austin Peay email and it is easy for me to remember. I choose Richardson as my blog name because I had to have my last name as part of my blog title. I am pretty sure it will change as I continue through my 23 things.

Creating my blog was not hard at all, I found it quite easy actually! I tend to blog a lot during ruff times in my life because it is easier for me to type my thouhgt  then to write them down.

My avatar really does not look like me but it does resemble my personality. I always wear my hair short with a bang and always have a cup of coffee with me to keep me moving through the day. I actually am sipping a cup of starbucks coffee as I type!

Thing #1

While watching 7 1/2 habits I wrote down each habit and began to think about each one and how it related to my life today. The easiest habit for me was number three. Everyday between dealing with school, work, cheerleading, and friends and family, I have learned that every problem I face is just a challenge that I will learn a life long lesson from. Especially inspiring to be a teacher, every lesson I plan will not be perfect, I will have to be flexible and stand up to the challenges I may face in the classroom. The hardest habit many might say is the easiest, but I say it is the hardest habit and that is habit 1/2. Many times I forget that life has to be enjoyable, being all work and no play could drive one to be insane.
